Even though I am officially retired, living in the hills, running through the woods and mountains with Smokey the beagle hound, and boating up and down the lakes nearby on my yacht,(14' aluminum boat), the 'Golden Beaver' I go back to Alaska to work in the summer. Especially when someone makes me an offer I can not refuse, to engineer their boat, for very good money! And, I don't have anymore salmon, halibut, and codfish in my freezer to eat all winter. Time to stock up on my homepack is more than a valid reason to go back for the summer. I will be leaving this Tuesday morning at oh-dark thirty from Sea-Tac.
I will be working on a salmon tender. We pick up salmon from the fishing boats, (seiners), put the fish in the crab tanks, that are refrigerated, and then transport them some distance to the canneries, offload it and go do it again. We will be in the south penninsula area of Alaska, running between Chignik and Cape Lutke on the west end of Unimak Island. Beautiful country, mostly inshore waters, and alot of wildlife around. Pretty sure I will be able to post pictures from there, and will do so whenever possible. I may even have the time to toss in a comment or two once in awhile.
Before I go I wanted to post a few pictures of places I will not see for awhile and will truly miss. Thanks to everyone here at Newsvine for the friendship, the caring, and the sharing throughout the year. It means alot to me and I will miss you all!
